Back to Normal

You wouldn't know we had just received the equivalent of a 10ft container worth of 'stuff'. It has almost all been reshuffled, put away, erected, placed etc and the house feels a bit more...how can I put this nicely...full?
It is nice to have my baking pans, and to celebrate that I made lemon, cranberry and dark chocolate muffins to take to the Bar in the village, to watch the All Blacks game on their screen. We had one French person watching with us, this morning, and our hostess had put out some Tricolor flags (the French Flag) and was wearing Red White and Blue:)
It was a scrappy game, in my opinion, but the French acquitted themselves well, and we were able to cheer for both sides.
Muffins were passed around the bar folks and were well received. They thought it was weird that we wanted to put butter on our muffins...well....no! Who doesnt? Must be an English thing?

Tuesday, fellow Kiwis Michelle and Richard arrived in a large truck to pick up some carefully chosen furniture that we needed to part with. They have taken away the pink (sorry...ROSE) sofa! the gold chair and the Recamier and ottoman, among other things. Being late morning we decided to do lunch before any work...as you do!:)
It was warm enough...just...to sit out on the terrace and enjoy the view. We are getting very tired of this grey and drizzle. Next week is supposed to fine up and have some warm temperatures...we hope!

Richard very carefully packed everything for the 1 1/2 hour trip to their storage shed.
Plenty of bubble wrap...From our house to theirs:)
They finally took off late afternoon, following a 'proper' cuppa on the terrace in the Royal Doulton tea set I had just unpacked:)
Teatanic thought he would get in on the act! See the boat there on the saucer? We had teatanic on the boat in Florida. It actually survived (without sinking!) the whole 5 yrs afloat! Yes, the boat did too!

It is nice to have all the extra space with all that furniture et al gone.

Wednesday we stayed home. It rained and we put stuff away. That's about all we can say about it:)
We did go to Cognac to pick up the carburetor for the Weed Wacker, and went to Mr Bricolage in Chateaubernard, and got kicked out at noon! Stopped off at a patisserie for desert (well, afternoon tea) and made it home for lunch. Just a normal sort of day. lol.

We went to Angouleme yesterday (Thursday) to do a large food shop at the Carrefour Supermarket, after a short visit to our bank, just up the road there. That was the primary reason for making the 35 min trek into Angouleme.
We met Michelle and Richard there and introduced them to the supermarket after enjoying lunch together at out favorite café in the mall. They found us as we finished our shopping, having just bought themselves a Stereo:) They asked if we heard the Beatles being played loudly in the supermarket...not especially...but the salesperson was demonstrating the stereo for them, and it apparently was broadcast throughout the building:)

A trip to Leroy Merlin Hardware store for some bits and pieces followed and we were on our way home, exhausted.
Goodness me...these shopping expeditions can be trying! Trying in that we are trying to buy and eat food that we might not normally choose. It takes a lot of effort to do all this, you know!
We are challenging ourselves to order food over the counter and I did this successfully for cheese and salami, making some good choices. Tres tasty!

I bought a baby-back pork rib rack at the butchery, preferring to buy fresh meat, and then some time later we found ready-marinated pork ribs in a cooler and purchased some of the Garlic variety. They were delicious, though they needed salt.
Lovely to be able to just throw them on the Bar-b-q. How on earth have we lived the past 12 years without a Bar-b-q?
The garlic stuff on the top did burn, but they tasted just fine.
Last week I had bought a bag of Frozen Noisette potatoes. Cooked on high heat in the oven they are yummy! I could sit and eat a whole lot of these dipped into a ranch dressing, I think! They went well with the ribs, which were succulent and tasty, once Waz doctored them with a light salting.
 Tres juicy!
I had made a large cole slaw earlier in the day, and we ate our ribs and taties with that. Very wholesome.
Once again, the day had been rainy, grey and overcast, but around dinner time, the sun appeared and we got these 'spots' of sunshine! Weird. This is a distant view looking south. You can see that distinct sunny spot just over the hamlet.

These grapes are the ones climbing over the terrace railing. If the wasps dont get them first, we will have a good crop, dont you think? Some measure might be in order to keep them all for us!
Waz found some tomato fertilizer downstairs and gave them all a dose. Overnight everything sprang to life!
Another of those sunny spots, looking north.
On our shopping expedition we chose quite a lot of meat. We found some 15% fat steak hache (ash aye) or ground beef, which I'm going to make patties out of, and some lovely looking beef chunks for Bourguignon...it actually said that on the packaging! We already have the steak fries in the freezer, so it might be a burger and fries night some day soon!
As for the Bourguignon....Well, I just had to do that today as I have unpacked the slow cooker:) Oh joy!

Waz had to go and find all the goodies to make it possible for me to use it, first.
The 5kVA transformer which is huge, means I can use my American appliances in France. Cant use them without it, as US appliances are 110V and French are 220/240V, same as NZ appliances.

The transformer takes up half the counter space. It was well worth the effort though:)

Some smashed sweet potato and steamed broccoli completed our dinner, tonight. Though it was windy outside, we did manage to finish the meal sitting in the sun out front.

So colorful, and so good for us...especially that red wine sauce!

Our office space is taking shape, Waz having put the desks together, but we are lacking storage space. We cant quite remember what we have coming in that respect, but THINK we have enough for the purposes.
I put away the clothing...well, MOST of it, this afternoon. How on earth do we have so much? Between the boating stuff and the summer stuff, and then there are the winter jackets...sigh! We wont need to buy any new clothes for the next 20 yrs. Good thing!
Part of our problem is that we have lived in hot places for the past 5 yrs, and have only needed our winter things for such a short time each year, and nothing wears out. We should be thankful! We will need the winter clothes here though!

Having lived a t-shirt and shorts lifestyle in recent years, the only things looking decidedly tatty, are our work clothes. Those things we wore on the boat on a day to day basis. We will need to have a clean out of our $US4 t-shirts, and make them into workshop rags, methinx.

Well, that's it for now, folks. Tomorrow is Sunday, and we have someone coming to pick up some more furniture that we have sold. More space in the garage! Yay!
It is still light at 11pm, these days/nights....with the summer solstice still a week away.
On Thursday of this week...weather being fine...we are going down to the town square for a Music Festival. Food, music and neighbors! Sounds great, doesnt it?

Enjoy the rest of the weekend. A Bientot.
